Photography Gear

Below is a comprehensive list of the gear I use for photography, I’ve handly included links to view more details and purchase (where available) - NOTE: I do receive a very small amount of commission on any purchases made, any profits received go back in to my photography.

Camera Body - Sony A7Riii - Produced in 2017 and still a more than capable camera today, At some point I’ll upgrade to an A7Rv but I’m more than happy with the photos this camera produces.

Lenses:

  • Sigma 16-28mm - Compact, relatively fast at F/2.8 (good for astro) and really sharp, a great alternative to the Sony 16-35mm G Master at less than half the price.

  • Tamron 28-200mm - This lens lives on my camera, it’s such a versatile lens and more than sharp enough across the frame.

  • Sigma 100-400mm - Used a lot less since I bought the Tamrom 28-200mm, but still wouldnt be without it, a great alternative to the Sony 100-400mm GM

  • Samyang 35mm F/1.8 - Bought for street photography, cheap, fast and excellent image quality, I also use this for a lot of my b-roll on videos.

Tripods:

  • 3 Legged Thing Mike - My day-day tripod, love the built in levelling base and the build quality is excellent!

  • Benro TMA48CXL - An absolute BEAST of a tripod reaching to appx 8ft tall (if needed) Great when you need a tripod where getting the camera a bit higher (such as woodland) is needed.

Tripod Head: Leofoto G4 Pro - Gear Head - A copy of the hideously priced Arca Swiss D4, I’ve been using it a year and it hasn’t let me down.

L-Bracket - 3 Legged Thing Universal PD - A must for any users of the Peak Design Capture Clip (see accesories below), because it has the clip built in to the L-Bracket

Bag - Shimoda Action X50 - Shimoda bags have pretty much become the industry standard Landscape Photography bags for a reason, absolutely bomb proof, super comfortable and water resistant.

Drone - DJI Air 3S - I absolutely adore this drone for it’s photography and videography capabilities, having that 3x telephoto lens opens up a whole world of photography (not defininitely go for the fly more combo and the one with the screen, as its a complete faff trying to connect to your phone in the field)

Filters - Freewell Magentic CPL and NDs - Having used an extensive range of filters from many different brands, I always end up coming back to Freewell, their cost/value is just about right - Quality wise I cannot see any benefit in more expensive brands.

Editing:

  • Photoshop

  • Lightroom

  • DxO Photolab - Recently using DxO applications more and more, Photolab is DxO’s equivalent to Lightroom. It take a little getting used to but it’s so powerful! giving you a lot of flexibility with the edit and AI masking tools I would say are better than Lightroom - Use the link and enter offer code MARTINH15 to get 15% off your order

  • DxO Nik Collection - DxO Nik Collection is an amazing application to add that final ‘polish’ to your photos, it contains so many great filters and effects for your photo to really make them shine, I’m particularly a fan of ‘Silver Efex’ for those minimalist monochrome images - Use the link and enter offer code MARTINH15 to get 15% off your order

Video Gear

Main Video Camera - DJI Osmo Pocket 3 - There’s a reason 90% of vloggers have moved to this camera, it’s a vlogging powerhouse in a tiny package!, Great in low light, has a gimble for stabilised footage and isn’t too badly priced - if you purchase you MUST go for the creator combo, which contains the extra battery - You wont regret it.

B-Roll Camera(s):

  • Sony A7Riii - Paired with my Samyang 35mm, you can get some stunning b-roll footage.

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra - More and more I’m using my phone to capture b-roll when out an about as it’s just less of a faff. Supporting LOG means I can edit the footage to suite when I’m back on the PC.

Drone - DJI Air 3S - Amazing tracking capabilties and the choice of a wide or telephoto lens, gives me so many options to capture great footage.

Tripod - Freewell -The Real Travel Tripod - Lightweight and quick to extend the legs (one turn) this is the perfect vlogging tripod.

Audio:

Editing - Davinci Resolve Studio - A fantastic FREE software to edit videos.
